Hilti HST3
The Hilti HST3 is a heavy-duty wedge expansion anchor designed for high-load structural connections in concrete. It uses a torque-controlled expansion mechanism with an optimised expansion sleeve that provides consistent clamping force across a range of concrete strengths and conditions.
HST3 anchors are used in structural steel-to-concrete connections, base plate anchorages, equipment mounting, and infrastructure applications where high tensile and shear capacities are required. The anchor carries an ETA covering both cracked and uncracked concrete and is seismic-qualified for structural applications.
While mechanical anchors are generally less sensitive to installation variables than chemical anchors, proof testing verifies that the expansion mechanism has fully engaged, the concrete has not cracked during installation, and the anchor achieves its rated capacity in the actual substrate.
How ATA tests Hilti HST3
HST3 proof testing focuses on verifying that the expansion sleeve has fully engaged and the anchor achieves its rated capacity without excessive displacement. Concrete surface cracking around the anchor head during loading can indicate insufficient edge distance or anchor spacing. Failure to achieve torque during installation is a common issue detectable through under-performance relative to expected capacity.

Other mechanical anchors in the library
Ramset DynaBolt Plus
The Ramset DynaBolt Plus is a sleeve expansion anchor designed for medium-duty anchoring in concrete, brick, and block masonry. It uses a sleeve-and-cone expansion mechanism activated by tightening the bolt, which draws the cone into the sleeve and expands it against the bore wall. The DynaBolt is one of the most widely used general-purpose anchors in Australian commercial construction.
Fischer FAZ II
The Fischer FAZ II is a through-bolt expansion anchor designed for heavy-duty structural connections in concrete. It uses a torque-controlled expansion mechanism with a precision-engineered expansion cone that provides consistent and high clamping force across a range of concrete grades.
